Painting Stories

The Space Between, Painting Story

Almost everyone has heard of the “stages of grief”… Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. What we rarely talk about is the places in between those five distinct stages. I created this while in the stages between denial and anger; vast numbness. A place where you can see what coming next, but it hasn’t hit yet. The waves of grief are still crashing on your shore, but the feeling that they are continually pulling you under has temporarily subsided. A gentle reminder that no one’s journey through grief looks the same; but isn’t that the point of a journey?

About the Artist

Hi, I’m Mallory and I am so glad you found me!

I'm a multimedia landscape artist and geologist inspired by the natural beauty around me. Growing up in Santa Barbara, California, I spent much of my childhood by the Pacific Ocean, where the sounds and sights of the sea instilled a lifelong sense of inspiration.

In 2018, I returned to painting as a way to cope with my dad's cancer diagnosis. Art became my sanctuary, allowing me to process emotions and revisit cherished memories, especially beach days with my dad.

Now living in the Pacific NW, I paint the lush rainforests, moody seasons, and rugged coastlines that surround me. My goal is to convey peace and inspiration through my work, reflecting both the nostalgia of my hometown and the everyday beauty of the PNW.

Art is my creative therapy, helping me express feelings words often can't capture. I hope my paintings speak to you and offer moments of calm and reflection.
